BRIEF OVERVIEW |
3.2 MW Gas Fired Co-Generation combined heat and power plant. With (4) 800 KW Caterpillar natural gas-fired, after-cooled, lean burn 3516 90 LE reciprocating engine generator sets each rated at 820kWe output at 480V at the generator terminals. This chp plant is in excellent condition. All four generators operate at a base load of 700KW, though are capable and have run at their 800KW nameplate. All units are operated on a 24/7 basis with very little downtime for anything other than scheduled maintenance. |

UPGRADES |
The units have been maintained in accordance with Caterpillar specifications by full time Caterpillar mechanic from the local Caterpillar dealership. Every 1,000 hours, oil samples are taken to ensure the engines are working according to specifications with wear within parameters set by the manufacturer. Every 2,000 operating hours, Caterpillar changes all oils and filters, and performs a valve bridge and lash adjustment. |

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION |
The plant was built in 1988 of entirely new components. Building was constructed specifically to house the plant. Major components of the plant are (4) Caterpillar G3516 SITA engines, mated to Caterpillar SR-4 or SR-4B generators rated at 800KW, 480V, 1200A. The plant is designed to run on Natural Gas, (2) 420 Ton Trane Absorption Chillers, and one Recold chiller unit. All energy is recovered through a system of exhaust and cooling water heat recovery units. The units have wet exhaust systems that capture the exhaust heat, as well as the cooling water heat in a shell and tube heat exchanger (one for each generator). Exhaust gas temperature is
approximately 800°F, and block water enters the heat exchanger at 205°F. After the heat exchanger, water enters the two absorption chillers at 230°F. Engine intake water is approximately 200°F after processing through the chillers. The generator turbos (two each) are cooled through a closed cooling loop with a Recold unit as the cooling device, built in approximately 2009. |
